2007 - Memorial Garden at Redhills - Statue - Patterson

William Hammond Patterson: Born 1847, Fawdon Square Newcastle, son of a quarryman. Started work Jesmond Quarry aged 11. Within a year was working at Heworth Colliery. Heworth Lodge formed 1865 with Patterson as secretary. Committee member of DMA Feb 1870. Appointed Agent for South-West Durham District June 1870. Replaced Crawford as General Secretary on Crawford's death in 1890. Died 1896.
