1826 Stargate Colliery Disaster

1826 Stargate Colliery Disaster

Hereabouts were buried 38 men and boys
Killed by
The Stargate Explosion
May 30th 1826

Remote from where people live
Men with lamps dig a shaft
A place where there is no foothold
And hang suspended far from mankind.
They put a limit to the darkness
Piercing the black and lightless rock.
Searching the depths of the earth.
Driving tunnels through the stone
Men dig the hardest rocks
To bring to daylight secrets that were hidden.
Their eyes see all its treasure
But where can wisdom be found ?
Where is the place of understanding ?
